Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville and French music of the Luis XV epoch (to the 300th anniversary)
Abstract
The main concern of the article is the works by one of the most remarkable representatives of 18th century French music — a composer and violinist Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville. The paper discusses the main stages of his biography and works in different genres. J.-J. M ondonville’s works are analyzed together with those of French composers in the framework of transformation that took place in the sphere of music — from baroque to classical style. It also reveals the peculiarities of the musical art in France under the reign of Luis XV.
