The article deals with the relations between the renowned art critic Alexander N. Benois and the works of the “Blue Rose” group of artists of N. Sapunov and P. Utkin. The main discussion point is the comparison of Benois’ views on the creativity of these artists and an assessment of their heritage in the art criticism of the Soviet period. The author analyzes in detail the art critic E. Vodonos, I. Hofman, A. Rusakova, whose names are recognized by authorities in the history of an aesthetic evaluation of the Symbolist artists. Yet the main value of the published material is an introduction to entries transcribed by the author from catalogs of exhibitions held at the beginning of the twentieth century.
