Literaturo-centrism as a leading trend of the democratic-line painting of the second half of the 19th century
Abstract
The article is dedicated to literaturo-centrism of the democratic line of Russian painting of the second half of the 19th century. The “literaturo-centrism” in this article refers to the dominant position of literature in the culture of the time. The main features of literaturo-centrism in painting — narrative, illustratory character, the combination of literary fiction and historical truth, “literary effect” of the title of the picture, entering the text in the art work — are analyzed in the article. Author researches the literaturo-centrism evolution in the historical painting. Art works of V. G. Schwartz are regarded as a forerunner of the literaturo-centrism trends in the painting of the second half of the 19th century. The features of literaturo-centrism in the art works of I. E. Repin, V. M. Vasnetsov, dedicated to the image of Ivan the Terrible are analyzed as well. Author made a comparative analysis of the demonstration of the literaturo-centrism trends in academic salon and democratic lines of the Russian historical painting of the second half of the 19th century. As the result the dominant position of literaturo-centrism in the democratic lines was identified.
