“Requiem”. A painting cycle by Solomon Gershov (1906–1989)
Abstract
In the XXth century requiem became a cultural symbol, a field of experiments overlapping various genres and kinds of arts, and a way to express diverse ideas and meanings. The article focuses on transformation of the traditional musical genre of requiem in fine art on the example of the “Requiem” cycle by Leningrad artist S. M. Gershov.
