An analysis of a fuga duplex in the Treatise of a fugue by F. W. Marpurg
Abstract
Th e article examines theory and practice of a fugue duplex (on two and more subjects) in the 18 century which appeared in appropriate analytical sections of the Treatise. In-depth study of the methods, terminology and practice of composing a fugue, together with an explanatory system of musical material promotes more adequate understanding and practice of composing fugue, as well as to a general systematization of fugal species — not only in the High baroque period, but in the European music theory of following centuries as well.
