The playing nature of Michael Chekhov’s exercises
Abstract
The author of the article investigates the Ludo (playing) nature of a theatrical-pedagogical method created by Michael Chekhov. Th e basic natural property of playing activity is «consciousness bifurcation», generating «two-planned behaviour» — simultaneous existence in the real and imaginary spaces. According to M. Chekhov, a duality of actor existence on a scene is a guarantee of his/her freedom and inspiration. In order to educate actor to keep both plans, to shift from one to another, M. Chekhov had developed special exercises.
