Abstract

The main topic of the article is the paintings by Salvador Dali of 1920s approached in relation to the Noucentisme, a unique phenomenon in cultural and social life of Barcelona in the first quarter of the 20th century, which was embodied in the art of neoclassicism. The analysis primarily focuses on the artistic interrelation between the painters that belonged to this trend and the paintings by Salvador Dali, diversity and similarity in their attitudes towards the national tradition, ancient heritage and avant-garde. In addition, it reveals the common ideological basis in the works by the representatives of Noucentisme and Salvador Dali in spite of different figurative character of their art in the context of cultural life of Barcelona of 1910–1920s.
