Art space in Russian art-house films
Abstract
One of the most important components of the film is its art space, formed, first of all, with the visual images. Every new artistic direction in cinema industry differs from others foremost by the method of interpretation of artistic space. A lot of films produced in Russia during the last ten years may be defined as art-house or art cinema. Most of these movies have one thing in common, that is the manner of interpretation of the art space, characterized by realistic, but at the same time conventional environment, in which the characters of the movie exist. This phenomenon is explained by the dominance of the plots of parabolic character full of symbols and allegories in this type of films. To a certain extent, it is explained by domineering position of the plots, peculiar to parable. The conclusion is that interpretation of screen space in the films of Russian arthouse is close to the conventional, theatrical space.
