On the introduction of drawing in schools of Northern Azerbaijan (second half of 19th — early 20th century)
Abstract
Based on a variety of archival sources, first introduced to researchers the author focuses on the development of the idea of art education in Russia itself. This was caused by the development and the rise of industry and trade, for which the use of paint to improve the quality of the goods are of great importance. It is noted that the issue is not only important for teaching, but it also has historical and informative value. In addition, the importance of art education as a component of cultural development of society is emphasized. In this paper the introduction of the subject of drawing in schools of northern Azerbaijan is examined for the first time in Azerbaijani historiography. The article presents the decrees, orders, regulations of the Ministry of Education of the tsarist government, manuals and guides for drawing, Proceedings of the Congresses of the Baku petroleum producers, the participation of students in secondary schools of northern Azerbaijan on summary exhibitions of works in painting and competitions conducted by the Russian Academy of Arts. Summarizing the research, the author stresses the importance of drawing in the development of artistic taste in students, in training for the art industry and for education in general.
