Based on the analysis of works of art, memoirs of contemporaries, publications in the English press of 1910s, it explains the role of two sculptors — Jacob Epstein and Henry Gaudier-Brzeska — at the avant-garde of London’s artistic life in the fi rst half of 1910s. In addition, the paper reveals the interrelation of creative pursuit of sculptors of the first period of British “insular of modernism” and the styles of British sculpture of 1930–1960s.
