Humanist? Modernist? Vitalist? The role of Henry Moore in the history of modern sculpture. Part II. “The greatest eclectic among modern sculptors”
Abstract
The second part of the series on the problems of art by Henry Moore focuses on an analysis of the synthetic basis of his works. It consistently reviewes and analyzes the ideas and concepts that influenced the famous sculptor — formalism of Roger Fry, vitalism of Herbert Read, abstract art, surrealism. In addition, it poses a question: is it possible to regard Moore as a modernist? The conclusion is related to Moore’s relationship with the modernist movement and its role in the history of sculpture of the 20th century, as well as the universality of his individual creative concepts.
